Chapter 7: Dr. Mansfiled

Dr. Mansfield

Oh, my goodness! That was mind-blowing. That kiss was something else. Who knew a kiss could be filled with so much heat? I thought to myself as I drove as fast as I could towards the hospital. There was no time to go get changed into my scrubs at my house. However, I knew I had extra scrubs at my office, which I could change into.

I'm definitely staying to explore what is happening between Nikki and me because I'm certain that it's not just an ordinary connection that I feel between us. This is more. I thought to myself as I shifted a bit to adjust my erection that was a result of our passionate kiss. I can't wait to kiss her again. Who am I kidding? I can't wait to do more than kiss her again and again. I tried to concentrate on driving while I savored the memory of the kiss over and over again.

I got to the hospital a few minutes later and saw a flurry of movement at reception, I knew it must be because of the accident. Changing into my scrubs and getting to work was my priority.

"Good afternoon, Dr. Mansfield," One of the nurses at the reception greeted me, but I barely noticed her greeting and only gave her a brief nod while I hurried to my office to get changed.

"Thank goodness, you are here," Dr. Edgar said as he spotted me heading towards the emergency department. I was already dressed in my scrubs.

"How bad is it?" I asked as we both entered the ward after sanitizing our hands and pulling on gloves.

"Fatal, if I’m honest. They were in a bus heading for the neighboring town, I think, on an excursion of some sort before they crashed. They are all teenagers except the person who I assume was their driver," Dr. Edgar said and I paused in shock.

“Teenagers?" I repeated as my eyes widened before I resumed walking with him.

"Yes, it's terrible. Two of them are dead," He said wearily. I felt a tremble deep within me as everything seemed all too familiar.

We entered the theater within minutes and met two doctors standing by a teenage girl lying on a bed. We joined in and the next few hours were spent saving her. It was late in the afternoon by the time we finished the operation. Then we worked on two other teenagers after the first girl was stable. I was relieved that none of the teenagers I had worked on died, but I was still saddened that we had lost three of the teenagers who had been on the bus. Apparently, their bus had gone off a cliff while it had been trying to avoid a collision with a drunk truck driver who the police were still searching for.

I groaned as my body ached from the long hours spent in the theater as I entered my apartment that evening. I was too weak to do anything other than freshen up and sleep.
